An Indian restaurant and takeaway has been told major improvement is necessary after a recent food hygiene inspection.

The results, published this week, revealed that Sujoy Tandoori in Main Parade, Whitelands Avenue, Chorleywood, was given a score of 1/5 after its June 11 assessment.

Zero is the lowest rating an eatery can receive.

Update: Sujoy Tandoori was inspected again on November 28 and was awarded a 5/5 hygiene rating. Sometime later the new rating was published on the website ratings.food.gov.uk

Its owner Nanu Dey said he believes the restaurant will receive a 5/5 when the required work is complete.

The eatery was told major improvement is necessary in management of food safety.

Here, inspectors asses if there are systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.

Staff are also expected to know about food safety and the hygiene officer must have confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

The area of hygienic food handling, which includes preparation and cooking, was graded as improvement necessary by the inspector.

However, the area of cleanliness and conditions of facilities and building, was judged as to be 'good'.

Mr Dey said: “We are upset with the rating of 1. We have been here for 30 years and never had anything like this.

“I believe that when we have done all the work required, we will get 5/5.”
