With that in mind, we've put together a list of some of Hertfordshire's best parks to visit, with a little help from TripAdvisor.

1. Verulamium Park, St Albans

Featuring a Roman mosaic, ruins of a historic city wall, "Britain's oldest pub" and a lake, Verulamium Park is TripAdvisor's best-rated park in Hertfordshire.

The St Albans location has a 4.5 star rating on the review website, with 1,020 reviewers in total.

One reviewer, Barry S, commented: "The park and lake are always good value, and the recent arrival of a couple of more than friendly kingfishers has enhanced the experience."

2. Cassiobury Park, Watford

Watford's Cassiobury Park is a close second according to TripAdvisor, with a 4.5 star rating but just 835 reviews.

The Green Flag award winning location holds a variety of events throughout the year.

Christine K wrote: "What a great park!

"We called here as we were waiting to go to Warner Brothers Studios at our allotted time, and we had a morning to pass on."

3. Aldenham Country Park, near Elstree

Aldenham Country Park has a four star rating on TripAdvisor, with 909 reviewers.

The location near Elstree features 100 acres of countryside.

NBLondon wrote: "I'm glad that Aldenham County Park is there.

"It's great for kids, it has a little 'farm experience' (extra cost), there's even glamping now."

4. Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage

Fairlands Valley Park is located in Stevenage, and has a variety of attractions within its boundaries.

The location has a higher rating than Aldenham Country Park, with 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor, but only has 311 reviewers in total.

Nelgumford commented: "Fairlands Valley park is an excellent facility in the middle of Stevenage...

"...We went for a picnic, under a row of trees, on a very hot and sunny June day and it was brilliant."

5. Rickmansworth Aquadrome, Rickmansworth

Rickmansworth Aquadrome features a café, play area and two large lakes.

The location has a 4.5 star rating and 217 reviewers on TripAdvisor.

Kevin Rayment commented: "Had a wonderful walk with my daughter at the Aquadrome.

"There was a lot of wildlife to see and also water-skiers."

6. Gadebridge Park, Hemel Hempstead

Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead also has a 4.5 star rating, with 201 reviewers.

Of the location's reviewers, 96 gave the space TripAdvisor's full five stars.

Jodie C said: "Simply lovely.

"What a lovely find!

"There is so much open space (many dog walkers) as well as a two playgrounds, a small skatepark and even a splash fountain."

7. Leavesden Country Park, Abbots Langley

Lastly, Leavesden Country Park has a five star rating, but only 19 reviewers on TripAdvisor.

The Abbots Langley location covers 27 hectares of land with a football pitch, wildlife areas and tennis courts all present.

Mike D commented: "Now a favourite place to visit for an hour or so. Plenty of sculptures and various places to access it from.

"Able to entend the walk into the countryside."
