A local home’s remodel starred in the latest episode of a property TV show this week.

BBC Two’s Your Home Made Perfect came to Croxley Green as couple Caitriona and Kevin had their house redesigned in virtual reality by competing architects, before completing the work for real.

The broadcaster’s description for the episode said: “Moving from a tiny city flat to a three-bed house in Rickmansworth was initially a dream come true for Caitriona and Kevin.

“But as their twins Lilly and Fionn get older, there are nightly squabbles over who has to sleep in the box room.

“Caitriona needs a comfortable home office away from the damp conservatory and dreams of a sociable kitchen with a garden view.

“With no one settled at night, no comfortable family space downstairs, and a cramped kitchen, they can’t wait any longer - they need change now.”

The conceit of the programme is that competing architects use “photo-real” virtual reality technology and visual effects to pitch different approaches to achieving a dream home.

The two designs show a complete transformation for the two floor 1930s building, although one is more dramatic than the other. Using the technology, a tour of the redesigned property can be taken to wow the homeowners before any work takes place.

The home includes a small hall, living room, kitchen/diner, and conservatory on the ground floor as well as a bathroom, two-bedrooms, and a “boxroom” up the stairs.

The principal challenges for the architects are creating a better office space to adapt to home-working, evening up the children’s bedrooms, and creating a more welcoming kitchen on a £85,000 budget they saved over five years.

Towards the end of the episode viewers see the progress of the build, including the struggles of attempting to remodel a home during Covid.

However, the episode does end by showing the fully realised design Caitriona and Kevin decided to go with, even if cutbacks did end up having to be made.
