Although there are worries for a beloved festival's future, attendees are set to enjoy enjoy a host of events this weekend.
Rickmansworth Canal Festival at Batchworth Lock is run by the Rickmansworth Waterways Trust and celebrates canals, the community and the environment.
Festival director David Montague said: “We are looking forward to a very good weekend.
- Festival that attracts tens of thousands 'at risk from soaring costs'
- Company invoiced as verge 'ruined by lorry driver' set for repair
- 'Luxury' restaurant chain confirms atria opening next week'
“We had a real challenge in terms of financing but managed to get to a break-even budget about a week ago.”
He explained that the festival normally breaks even by January, but despite financial pressure has managed to come together with help from donations, sponsors, and local councils.
The top attraction for many is the array of canal boats from across the country, with at least 100 craft of many types and histories moored along the towpath up to four deep.
Other attractions include music acts across several stages, a tug-of-war competition between boats, and around 130 stalls selling a range of goods.
Entry is free but donations are welcomed and sorely needed, organisers say, to help put the festival on as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, having run annually since 1993.
The main festival car park, costing £4, is accessed from Stockers Farm Road, although it is within walking distance of free parking in Rickmansworth town centre.
