Part of a popular route is fenced off as walkers have spotted work underway.
A section of the Ebury Way path, from the Chess Basin in Rickmansworth to the Moor Lane Crossing, has been shut since February 20 for surface improvements.
It is set to remain closed for up to two weeks.

A walker spotted a digger behind a closed off section of the path yesterday (February 24) and it looked like work on the surface was already well underway, even if little was going on at the time.
Three Rivers District Council said the work is being carried out to provide an all-year-round surface, making it “safe and more pleasant for users” and it is hoped improvements will encourage more people to make use of it.
People who use the path regularly have reported it would previously get quite boggy in wet conditions.
The surface has been designed for all users including those using wheelchairs, with many accessible entry points along the way.
Separate diversion routes are in place for both cyclists and pedestrians.
