Excitement for Tim Hortons to open in Watford has been building for almost half the year and I was finally able to try it.
The Canadian fast-food chain isn’t something I’ve ever tried before and as anticipation built, I wasn’t quite sure what made it so unique.
Fortunately, I was able to attend a pre-opening event on Thursday morning (November 24) and with the colourful menu I realised why people are so excited, even if its breakfasts were a bit much for me compared to my usual morning with own-brand Weetabix.

I ordered a vegan wrap, latte, and a hash brown as part of Tim Horton’s £3.49 breakfast meal (I was not charged at the opening event).
The wrap was made up of plant-based patty, salad, and vegan mayonnaise wrapped in a tortilla.
The patty itself was quite dense and felt more artificial compared to its competitors, but worked fairly well as a substitute with the mayonnaise taking centre stage in terms of flavour.
You wouldn’t really know the salad was there without looking as it was overpowered by the rest of the wrap.
The mayonnaise had a really strong taste, if a little overwhelming to me for a breakfast, but it certainly gave my day a kick-start.
On the other hand, the hash brown was a little underwhelming and flavourless and didn’t look particularly attractive.
What came as a surprise was that the coffee might have impressed me the most out of anything.
Branding outside the store had advertised it as 'Canada’s favourite coffee'. I’ve usually found fast-food outlets' coffee not worthwhile, as it doesn’t set itself apart from what you get from machine or instant coffee.
Instead, the Tim Hortons coffee was really nice and smooth, especially for the price as part of the meal.
Of course, vegans can’t always be choosers and its great Tim Hortons had options available.
Also, others might be more excited about the doughnuts and meaty burgers, which I didn’t try, and they may be more used to eating a little more for breakfast.
