Watford parks voted among best open spaces in the country

Across England, Scotland and Wales, 18,000 people voted for their parks to be recognised.

But Watford residents came out in full force with Cassiobury Park, Oxhey Park and Oxhey Activity Park making it on the list.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “The jewel in Watford’s crown, Cassiobury remains our most loved and used space, and with Oxhey Park’s fantastic new facilities that people of all ages are enjoying, visitors are spoilt for choice.

“When I speak to residents, many of them tell me that our fantastic parks and green spaces are one of the things they love most about Watford.”

Cassiobury Park is often used for festivals

The competition came after Watford Borough Council and Veola, which both run the parks, received 17 awards when environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy gave 2,208 Green Flag Awards to the nation’s best managed parks and green spaces.

To find the best parks, the charity asked the public to cast the final vote.

Cassiobury Park and Whippendell Wood also received a Green Heritage Site Award this year, in recognition of achieving the required standard in managing a site with local or national historic importance.
