A new Watford eatery's launch day was hit with some online complaints of noise and reports of “vehicle nuisance”.
Fast-food restaurant Chico’s Parmi N Shakes, in Whippendell Road, held a launch event last Friday evening (September 23) to showcase its dishes.
Entertainment included a magician for children, live DJs and the special guest appearance of Watford music producer Naughty Boy, as well as a visit from mayor Peter Taylor.
While owner Saleem Shah hoped it would be a fun community day for families in his home town, he was shocked to hear of a few noise complaints.
Some users on NextDoor complained that the music was “so loud” and their children struggled to sleep due to the event.

Others reported that there were “massive crowds” that blocked the pavement and several “£180k cars” blocking traffic.
One person wrote the “music (was) so loud I thought I was at a concert”.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed there were “a couple” of calls concerning noise, crowds gathering in the street and vehicle nuisance.
But a spokesperson added: “Officers attended, there were no signs of any crowds gathered or anything that required police assistance.”
In response to the complaints, Mr Shah said: “I don’t understand what the complaints are about. At the end of the day we did it for the community, secondly the mayor of Watford was there – so I don’t understand what people are moaning for.
“At the end of the day, we did a bit of entertainment for the kids – not for adults – and with the free food we wanted people to try our food.
“I think people are just exaggerating. It’s not like we’re going to have a party every day, are we?”
He added that the event ran for a short period and ended at 8pm.
Mr Shah explained he is already planning future events with the aim of raising money to support the homeless in the area.
This will include a public fireworks event in a park that is expected to take place in November. More information will be released once details are finalised.
