One of Watford’s most highly rated restaurants has received a string of negative reviews with some branding its service “terrible”.

Las Iguanas in High Street, which has 555 ‘excellents’ and 53 ‘very goods’ on Tripadvisor, recently came under fire in six consecutive reviews.  

One posted two days ago, rated 1/5, criticised the Latin food chain for reportedly only giving customers one hour 15 minutes to eat.

The poster wrote: “They are terrible. Nasty naff loud music! They only give you 1 hour 15 minutes to arrive, choose meal, order… then to cook, eat, enjoy? And leave.

“It was a group of 8, not appropriate. Avoid.”

Another around a week ago, also rated 1/5, said they were “extremely disappointed” by the service with one employee making them feel “uncomfortable”.

“She did not make me and my family feel welcome due to her lack of politeness and we felt that she looked down upon us,” they added.

Las Iguanas, ranked as the third best Watford eatery on Tripadvisor, reopened under new management in August 2020 after it was acquired from The Casual Dining Group.

Of the 675 reviews, 608 are excellent or very positive, 26 average, 22 poor and 19 terrible.

However, six of the last seven range between average and terrible.

One reviewer claimed Las Iguanas was “not what it was” – with customers reportedly having to do everything over an app with cash no longer accepted.

They added: “Recently staff has changed all youngsters with no respect for anyone!

“They just stand around laughing and joking between each other not realising we need their attention. They do not acknowledge you and are so slow.”

Someone also said it “seems like a place for young people to drink”, while another ‘average’ review was headlined “don’t visit unless you’re a student/fresher”.

Las Iguanas declined to comment.

However, despite the recent criticism, there were still several glowing reviews.

The most recent one, rated 5/5, said: “Amazing bottomless brunch with friends, so many drinks, amazing food, no rush, gorgeous company. Highly recommend.”

There were also four ‘excellent’ reviews on July 30, all referring to a birthday meal with “amazing” service from one of the staff members.
