Hundreds of visitors were left awestruck after a private ancient bluebells forest near Chorleywood was briefly opened for the weekend.
Visitors to the Crosslane Wood beauty spot were treated to a sea of purple shimmering in the spring sun between the trees.
There was also a pop-up café serving cakes, drinks and warm food – with money raised going to local charity Mission Employable, which trains young adults with learning disabilities.
Though bluebells can be found in several Hertfordshire woodlands in late April, few will top Crosslane’s stunning offering due to its private nature.
Kathy Walton on the fundraising team told the Watford Observer thousands of pounds had been made through the "absolutely fantastic" event.
She added that “huge numbers” came to see the “magnificent” bluebells and the pizzas and hotdogs went down a treat.
Money raised will help fund a new pavilion and training café, based at Chorleywood Cricket Club, for young adults with learning disabilities.
