The county’s largest LGBTQ+ event is returning to Watford next week to celebrate the community, and there will be a chance to meet LGBT+ liaison officers.

Herts Pride, supported by Watford Borough Council, will be hosted in Cassiobury Park on August 14.

The event will run between 12pm and 10pm.

Herts Pride is also an important date in Hertfordshire constabulary’s calendar and it is attended by officers every year.

The constabulary’s LGBT+ liaison officers will be attending this year’s event to support the county’s LGBT+ community.

The rainbow car, a fully operational patrol vehicle emblazoned with a rainbow design, will also be there as a visible reminder of the constabulary’s support for the LGBT+ community.

The space in Cassiobury park will also feature a selection of stalls, a funfair, food stalls, entertaining acts and the Herts Pride dog show.

The dog show will run between 2pm and 3pm, including categories of ‘waggiest tail’, ‘most appealing eyes’ and ‘rescue dog’, among others.

Headline acts will include RuPaul’s Drag Race star Sister Sister, 90’s pop-sensation Rozalla, and 911 – the 90’s boyband who rose to prominence with such hits like ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’, ‘Body Shakin’’ and ‘A little bit more’.

There will also be a variety of local acts performing from around Hertfordshire – including singer Mikey Kanes, drag artist Vicki Vicacious and radio host and singer Mel Switters. 

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Watford prides itself on its diversity, which includes our wonderful LGBTQ+ community.

“We’re so pleased to be able to host Herts Pride in Cassiobury Park this year, and we welcome people from all over Hertfordshire to come and celebrate alongside us.”

Herts Pride will also house a Health and Wellbeing marquee, which will offer advice and information from a variety of organisations.

There will also be a Covid vaccination clinic – which will run between 10am and 2pm, available for walk-ins, and will be situated at the entrance.

The clinic will be offering first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine, with the second only available to those who had their first dose eight weeks or more prior.

Attendees are encouraged to follow safety precautions, and the Hertfordshire County Council roving rapid testing team will also be in attendance.

Although the event itself is free, organisers request that attendees book their tickets before the day.
