With just weeks to go until some drivers will be charged for entering London, these are the roads where ULEZ begins.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is being expanded by the Mayor of London from August 29 to cover the whole of the capital, including Greater London.

Drivers who have a vehicle that does not comply with minimum emissions standards and want to avoid paying a daily charge of £12.50 will need to steer clear of these West Hertfordshire routes.

Below is a list of the major roads that cross the Hertfordshire border into London:

  • High Road and Heathbourne Road from Bushey Heath towards Stanmore
  • Oxhey Lane from Carpenders Park towards Harrow
  • Sandy Lane/Watford Road from South Oxhey towards Northwood
  • Rickmansworth Road from Batchworth towards Mount Vernon Hospital, Northwood
  • Rickmansworth Road from Batchworth towards Harefield
  • A41 Elstree Hill roundabout towards routes into Greater London
  • A1 Stirling Corner in Borehamwood towards routes into Greater London

What postcodes are affected by the ULEZ expansion in London?

There are also many smaller roads that cross into the capital, particularly around Northwood. A full interactive map is available here.

The zone is currently enforced on North and South Circular boundaries

Whether or not a vehicle is liable for the charge depends on how much nitrogen dioxide it emits.

For diesel cars and vans to avoid the charge they must generally have been registered from 2016, while most petrol models registered from 2006 are exempt.
