Intrepid councillors covered 20 miles to measure, photograph, and report 35 potholes.
Last Wednesday (January 11), Labour councillors Stephen Cox and Stephen King donned hi-vis jackets and spent two and a half hours on “pothole patrol” in South Oxhey.
Cllr Cox said: “Prestwick Road and Gosforth Lane sadly had the worst potholes with one being measured at well over two feet wide and more than three feet in length.
“When I measured it, I thought it was more of a crater than a pothole.”
- 'Extremely deep' pothole which 'burst car tyre' to be filled
- Pothole in Prestwick Road, South Oxhey, damages tyres
- Fox and Hounds among pubs under 'enormous pressures'
Potholes were spotted in the following roads: Birkdale Gardens, the junction of Hayling Road and Sandy Lane, Gosforth Lane, the junction of Fairhaven Crescent and Embleton Road, the junction of Fulford Grove and Hayling Road, Cherry Hills, the junction of Harborne Close and Anglesey Road, Prestwick Road, Northwick Road, and Oxhey Drive.
“Conservative-run Herts County Council just don’t maintain the road network, so dangerous potholes upend cyclists and cause drivers to swerve or get punctures and other wheel damage,” Cllr Cox added.
Earlier this month, Hertfordshire County Council said that repair crews are dealing with a large number of potholes that formed during the snow and ice in December, and are prioritising the most hazardous.
