Woodmere Avenue width restriction works completed

The Woodmere Avenue width restriction has been altered after numerous crashes had written off vehicles and tipped them onto two wheels.

Hertfordshire County Council agreed to make changes and earlier this month.

The existing posts were removed and replaced with four bright yellow and taller posts, set a little further away from the kerb.

The council also took the opportunity to resurface the road.

The works, programmed to start on August 15 and end on September 1, are now complete.

Tudor county councillor Stephen Cavinder said in a tweet: “15 months in the making and finally alterations to the infamous width restrictions at Woodmere Avenue are complete.

“It hasn’t been an easy journey to get here but hopeful vehicle incidents will now reduce.”

The latest design is expected to be a temporary measure until ANPR cameras are installed – likely in 2023 – which will allow the width restriction to be taken away altogether.
