An Abbots Langley woman fears someone will die unless speeding restrictions are introduced in her area.

Kristina Allison set up a petition after witnessing first-hand the dangerous speeds cars drive at on her road – Gallows Hill Lane.

The petition suggests a variety of solutions for Hertfordshire County Council to introduce in the road and around the village.

They include speed cameras and a 20mph speed limit as well as speed humps.

Ms Allison said: “I can be in my house, looking out the window and I see cars speeding down the road.

“Over the four years I have lived on this road I have seen the number of cars increase and the speed they go has increased.

“They are not going at 30 miles an hour. They speed up the road as much as they speed down.

“There are several people who do not drive safely, and they will run someone over.

“There will be a fatality.”

Ms Allison has two children and fears for their safety.

She said: “Because the road isn’t safe you have to walk to the other end to cross.”

So far, the paper petition has 260 signatures and the online petition has received 193 signatures.

Ms Allison hopes the petition will help Councillor Sara Bedford, who has campaigned for nine years to reduce speeding in the village.

Cllr Bedford said the council blocked her attempt to include Gallows Hill Lane within the village’s 20mph zone when she first campaigned for safe speed limits.

She added: “Other local roads, such as the areas around Broomfield Rise and Hazelwood Lane, are in dire need of measures to make them safer.

“I hope that Hertfordshire County Council will look at the human side of what speeding traffic does to the lives of local residents and work with me to make this happen.”

A council spokesperson said it welcomes the views of residents and petitions.

Ms Allison's campaign also won the backing of Watford MP Dean Russell after they were introduced.

The petition closes on December 31, 2022. If you would like to sign, click here https://democracy.hertfordshire.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?ID=1139&RPID=18203745&HPID=18203745
