Tommie Hoban played the full 90 minutes as the Republic of Ireland Under-19 European Championship campaign ended with a 1-1 draw against Israel yesterday.
The Hornets defender had been a 73rd-minute substitute in Monday night’s 3-0 defeat against Ukraine. This result, combined with Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Portugal, meant the Irish were unable to qualify for the tournament finals.
Hoban’s team were on course to end the competition on a high after taking the lead, only to be pegged back by a last-minute equaliser.
Watford team-mate Sean Murray was not involved as he is due to link up with the Under-21 squad today ahead of Monday’s European Championship qualifier against Italy.
