Tommy Smith is expected to complete his move to Portsmouth in the next 36 hours although contrary to previous reports, the forward will not have his medical at the club until tomorrow.
Smith is believed to have travelled down to Portsmouth yesterday afternoon despite the press gathering at a Reading press conference, where he was expected to be unveiled as a Royals player.
It was initially believed Smith had his Pompey medical last night but the Watford Observer now understands that will take place tomorrow.
Reading had agreed terms with Watford and the player and the 29-year-old had completed his medical at the Berkshire club’s Hogwood Park training ground on Monday.
But a late and increased bid from Portsmouth yesterday morning saw the forward travel to the coast to have discussions with Pompey last night rather than sign on the dotted line for Reading.
