Troy Deeney will not be leaving Watford before the transfer window closes next Thursday, the Watford Observer has been told.
We reported on Tuesday that Premier League newcomers Cardiff City were targeting a move for the Hornets skipper and their interest was genuine, although it has subsequently been claimed the Bluebirds have decided to switch their attentions elsewhere as they bid to bolster their forward options.
But we have been told Watford have no intention of allowing the 30-year-old to leave Vicarage Road.
Deeney had an indifferent 2017/18 campaign, scoring six times to register his lowest return since Watford returned to the Premier League in 2015.
However, he is set to embark on his ninth season at Vicarage Road and will bid to add to his 112 league and cup goals, making him the fourth highest scorer in the club's history.
