Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed it would be a dream to play for Liverpool as he continues to stir speculation he will leave Watford this summer.
The midfielder has repeatedly discussed links with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Jurgen Klopp’s men and looks destined to depart Vicarage Road after a fine campaign.
Having played at Anfield before the international break, the Frenchman was suitably impressed with what the famous ground had to offer.
“Liverpool is a club that needs no introduction,” Doucoure told Canal Plus. “I was impatient to play at Anfield, I wanted to feel the atmosphere.
“For me it would be a dream to play for a club like this.”
Doucoure’s form this season has seen him star in the centre of midfield for Watford and notch seven goals to lead the club’s scoring charts.
He has developed rapidly since first struggling to make an impact on the Watford squad under Walter Mazzarri last term.
As difficult as it would be for Watford to absorb the loss of Doucoure, the sense is that he is ready to make the step up and play at a club of larger stature.
The 25-year-old is thankful for the chance the Hornets gave him to impress in the Premier League, but does confess to being keen to test himself on the European stage.
“I am grateful to Watford, I have the confidence of this club, it is the one who revealed me to [the Premier League,” he said.
“If there is an offer, we will discuss to find the best solution. Everyone wants to play in the Champions League, the big competitions.”
Doucoure went on record last month to discuss reported interest from some of English football’s biggest clubs in securing his services.
The former Rennes man insists he will remain focused on Watford for the remainder of the season regardless of admiring glances from teams near the summit of the table.
“It is true these clubs (Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool) are interested,” he told Telefoot.
“But I am at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well.”
Doucoure will look to do just that starting with the visit of AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
