Injuries and the weight of fixtures caught up with Bedmond Sports and Social Club on Saturday as they saw their impeccable league record finally come to an end.
Ash Purser’s side had gone into their home game against Harefield United Under-21 with 17 Division One victories out of 17 this season, but their 100 per cent record was ended by a 4-0 defeat.
Bedmond are still odds-on to take the title as they lead closest pursuers Knebworth on goal difference, having played three games fewer, and they will seek to return to winning ways at FC Lemsford on Saturday before facing Belstone in Monday’s Aubrey Cup final.
The reigning Premier Division champions were also beaten this week, losing 3-1 at Sandridge Rovers on Tuesday following Saturday’s 1-0 win at Ware Sports.
Darren Turner scored in the defeat while Danny Johnson netted the Radlett side’s weekend winner.
Bovingdon had the better of two league games in the space of four days against Bushey Sports Club, winning Saturday’s first meeting at home 2-1 before a goalless stalemate in Tuesday's reverse fixture. Gary Burrell netted Bushey’s goal on Saturday.
Having been beaten 5-2 at Premier Division leaders Standon and Puckeridge on Saturday, there was more midweek disappointment for Sarratt as they went down 3-1 at London Lions. Mark Shanahan scored on Tuesday, with Alex Willerton among their scorers at the weekend.
Chipperfield Corinthians beat Evergreen 3-1 on Saturday; Lewis Jones scoring the visitors’ consolation.
