Quique Sanchez Flores says he doesn’t agree with Sam Allardyce’s description of Watford’s game against Sunderland tomorrow as a six pointer.

The Hornets travel to the Stadium of Light sitting tenth in the table and comfortably clear of the relegation zone that the Black Cats find themselves in.

Watford are actually closer to the top four than the drop zone but that didn’t stop Allardyce identifying the Golden Boys’ visit as a crucial game in the survival battle.

However, the feeling is not mutual. “I understand (what a six pointer is) but I will never in my life agree,” Flores said yesterday.

“As a player and as a coach I have never thought that one game is worth six points. I have a different mentality and am a realist about the situation.

"It is just three points. If we win then we get the three points. When we play them in the second half of the season and they win it is three points.”

The Spaniard continued: “I can’t guarantee we will win three points against Sunderland and I can’t guarantee we won’t get three points against Liverpool next week.

“It’s impossible to guess what will happen during a match. We will always give the best information to our players but in football everything is possible.”

Since Allardyce’s arrival in October Sunderland’s form has slowly improved. The Black Cats have won two of their last three matches and produced a spirited performance last weekend despite losing against Arsenal.

Flores says he has plenty of respect for Allardyce and knows his side will not find it easy against the Black Cats.

“Sunderland have changed a lot (since Allardyce’s appointment),” Flores said. “I respect him a lot because he has great experience in the Premier League.

“He’s changed the shape and the dynamic of the team and has used several different systems in different matches. We have to be ready to face different options.”

Watford’s head coach added: “The atmosphere at the stadium will also be amazing.

"We’ve played in these kind of stadiums before, such as Stoke and Newcastle. Sunderland are very similar. Our idea as always is to be competitive and get a good result.”
