Giedrius Arlauskis says the final ten minutes of Watford’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa were the hardest of his life.
The Lithuanian goalkeeper replaced the injured Heurelho Gomes in the 67th minute of Saturday’s contest with the game poised at 1-1.
An own goal and a Troy Deeney header gave the Hornets breathing space before Jordan Ayew reduced the deficit with an 89th minute strike.
As a result of Gomes’ injury ten minutes of stoppage time were added at the end of the second half.
Arlauskis’ nerves were tested but, barring one spilt cross which he should’ve caught, the Hornets stopper helped his side to victory.
“When I saw the referee show ten minutes I thought in my mind this will be the hardest ten minutes in my career,” the 27-year-old told Hornets Player.
“I’ve never in my life seen ten minutes of added time. It was really, really difficult because I was not playing from the start. So I was just thinking 'let’s win this game and go home'.
“It was really hard, the hardest ten minutes of my life. It felt much longer than ten minutes but I’m just happy for the team and the guys all did an amazing job.”
