Watford appear to have missed out on the loan signing of experienced Italian defender Luca Antonini.
The Hornets and Chievo were keen on adding the former AC Milan defender to their squads but the 32-year-old has decided to remain at Genoa.
Antonini appeared to validate Watford and Chievo’s interest when he reposted a link on his Twitter page to a Canele Genoa article confirming the duo were keen to acquire his services but that he was remaining at Genoa.
He started his career as a winger at AC Milan before moving to full-back later in his career. He can play on either flank and as a centre back.
Antonini spent time at a host of Italian clubs before returning to AC Milan in 2008.
He made 111 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions before joining Genoa five years later. The defender made 26 appearances for the Serie A side last season but has found it hard to secure regular game time this year, with just eight outings.
