They had to come from behind but Oxhey Jets sealed a cup double with a 2-1 victory against Cockfosters in the South Midlands Floodlit Cup final.
Jets went into the contest without top scorer Lewis Putman due to injury while Warren Gladdy, Danny Tilbury and Chris Killer also absent.
It has been a long season for Oxhey and they looked sluggish in the opening 45 minutes. They failed to impose themselves in the game and Cockfosters went ahead in the 37th minute.
Jets had a goal ruled out for offside before the interval and Luke Beardsworth also missed a good chance as he headed wide.
Oxhey went into half-time behind and had to make a change with the injured Beardsworth replaced by Adam Lowton.
The introduction of Lowton helped settle Jets and Lee Inch and Andy Lomas began to create chances.
Cockfosters came under increasing pressure and they were pegged back by Jets when centre-back Steve Brown headed home a corner at the back-post.
Oxhey had the momentum in the contest and they went ahead when, following some neat interplay, Inch smashed home from outside of the box.
Cockfosters attempted to fight-back but Jets did well to control the match and didn’t allow them a chance to equalise.
Oxhey saw out the final stages comfortably and the final whistle brought an end to an impressive season for the side who achieved their highest league position in addition to lifting two trophies.
