Watford have not given up hope of securing automatic promotion and the players will keep fighting until the end, head coach Gianfranco Zola stressed.

The Hornets' disappointing 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United and Hull City's 2-1 win at Ipswich Town at the weekend mean the Tigers are now six points clear of Zola's men with four games remaining.

Speaking on Saturday, Zola stated: "We will not give anything away and we will try until the end. It will be tough of course but we will have a go. In football you never know."

He continued: "I know it will be tough but it has happened to me many other times in football where you think the chance has gone and the opportunity comes again.

"It is going to be tough but we are not going to give up."

The term 'must-win game' is an over-used cliché in football but it is one which is sure to be used regularly in Hertfordshire this week, with crucial matches against Millwall tonight and Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

"They are all must-win games now but then they were before this," Zola said yesterday afternoon.

"Now we have 12 points to play for in four games, which we need to take and hope that Hull don't take more than six points. That is the bottom line.

"We will not give up until the end and I don't think the team will either. On Saturday, we kept fighting until the end and I expect us to do the same for the rest of the season."

The Golden Boys were 3-0 down on Saturday with just five minutes remaining and the spirited comeback from ten-man Watford could not mask what was a hugely disappointing day for the travelling supporters.

After the contest, Zola said: "The players are upset because we lost a good opportunity to keep the pressure on Hull but I can't complain with them - well I can complain about some of their mistakes but I can't complain about their attitude. Even today it was incredible because with ten men we fought until the end and scored two goals."

The morale has lifted slightly in recent days and yesterday Zola said: "It has been ok. Obviously the players are disappointed like everyone else but they are ok and there is still a lot to play for. They won't give up until the end for sure."

Tonight Watford travel to The Den to face a Millwall team who have not won a lhome eague match since New Year's Day.

But Zola claimed: "I don't trust statistics, not in the Championship. Millwall will want to win the game as well so it is up to us to go there and win the game."
