A former Watford FC footballer has been fined by the FA for bringing the game into disrepute with comments he made on Twitter.
Jamie Hand, who played for the Hornets between 2001 and 2006, has been ordered to pay £250 after being charged by the game’s ruling body.
The FA said Hand has also been warned about his future conduct over the incident.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who currently plays for Hayes & Yeading United FC, has deactivated his Twitter account since the ruling.
Before closing his account on the social media site, Hand posted a number of comments making sexually explicit remarks and abusing Luton fans.
In one post on April 9 he described Hatters fans as "40 year old virgins who live wit there [sic] mums".
Earlier this year Hand had a loan spell at Luton Town FC but was not signed on a permanent basis and is now back with Hayes & Yeading United FC, in Blue Square Bet Conference Premier.
Hand made 55 appearances for Watford FC after graduating from the Hornets’ youth academy.
Since departing the club he has played at several others including Chester City, Lincoln City, Ebbsfleet United, Chelmsford City and Woking before signing with Hayes and Yeading in 2010.
