This pony had a lucky escape after it fell into a swimming pool in Bushey Heath.
The 18-month-old pony tumbled into the pool at the back of a house in Heathbourne Road on Wednesday morning after wandering from a nearby field.
Fire crews had to drain the six metre deep pool after a failed attempt to make a ramp for the animal.
Bob Williams, watch commander at Borehamwood Fire Station, said: “It was a great result to be able to save the pony.
“Variation really is one of the beauties of the job these days. We have rescued horses and cows from mud and rivers before, so I wasn’t so surprised getting the phone call."
A pump was adapted to drain the water from the 25 metre-long pool during the two-hour rescue operation.
The owners of the swimming pool were away from the house at the time.
The pony was later given a full medical assessment and although distressed was not injured.
