A 10-mile walk of the Abbey Line Trail has raised £1,000 for the Watford Women's Centre.

Led by Watford mayor Peter Taylor and deputy mayor Aga Dychton, walkers were also joined by Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman for Sunday's charity event from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey station.

The mayor said: "It was great to be able to support the Watford Women's Centre.

"They do fantastic work in our community, and we hope this event will not only raise funds but also raise awareness about the services they provide.

"I was really grateful to everyone who took part – especially as the route was quite muddy – and of course to everyone who made a donation."

While the walk has concluded, donations for the Watford Women's Centre remain open.

The Watford Women's Centre, founded in 1989, has been supporting victims of sexual violence in and around the town for more than three decades.

The charity offers a domestic abuse service exclusively for women, ensuring it remains a safe haven for those in need.

Deputy Mayor and portfolio holder for community Cllr Dychton said: "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for the walk, contributing to a meaningful dialogue about the important work undertaken by the Watford Women's Centre.

"Together, we are actively challenging attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate violence against women and girls, paving the way for a community where everyone can thrive in safety and respect."
