"Amazing" nurses and midwives from West Herts NHS were invited guests as Geri Halliwell-Horner celebrated the launch of her new novel at the Tower of London.

The Spice Girl and author showed her appreciation for West Hertfordshire Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with the invitation to the launch of Rosie Frost and The Falcon Queen on Tuesday.

The 51-year-old, who shot to fame in the 1990s as Ginger Spice in the girl group, was born at Watford General Hospital and contacted the hospitals’ charity Raise to invite the nurses and midwives to the event, at which guests were treated to a private tour of the grounds by the Tower’s Yeoman Warders.

Being able to celebrate her book launch at the Tower of London was special for Geri, as the story behind Rosie Frost and The Falcon Queen draws inspiration from Tudor history, in particular Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth I.

Her novel follows the story of Rosie, a 13-year-old orphaned girl, who is sent to attend Heverbridge School for extraordinary children on the mysterious Bloodstone Island.

Rosie begins an epic adventure on the island, encounters endangered animals, confronts a group of mean girls, and uncovers shocking family secrets she wishes had stayed hidden.

Geri said: “I feel so honoured to be able to celebrate my new novel Rosie Frost and The Falcon Queen with everyone here tonight at the Tower of London.

“This evening really is more than just a book launch for me, it’s about celebrating modern day Falcon Queens, inspiring and courageous women like our amazing nurses and midwives here with us tonight!

“It feels like a dream come true to finally be able to share Rosie Frost with everyone.”

Other guests at the book launch included authors Dolly Alderton, Philippa Gregory, Malorie Blackman, Rafaella Barker, Rosie Day and Jaqueline Wilson; filmmakers Gurinder Chadha OBE and Susan Wokoma; actors Rhoda Ofori-Attah, Eleanor Tomlinson and Lisa Dwan; television personalities Penny Lancaster and Sonali Shah; musicians Emma Bunton and Imogen Heap; and Dylan Mulvaney and Nicola Adams.

Also in attendance were representatives of various philanthropic endeavours such as WWF, The Prince’s Trust, The Royal Commonwealth Society, Malaika and Choose Love.
