A new service for young people who need support for their emotional wellbeing is being launched in Watford on Monday.

The Herts Haven Cafes are safe and welcoming spaces for ten to 18-year-olds where they can share their concerns in a non-judgmental environment.

The cafes are run by mental health charity Herts Mind Network and the launch in Watford will take place at the Palace Theatre with a drop-in session from 2pm to 5pm.

Cllr Simon Feldman, chairman of Watford Borough Council, said: “I’m really glad that these spaces will provide a drop in service for the teens of all ages across Watford.

Watford Observer:

"The modern-day world can be really tough for children with the ongoing worries of putting a brave face on social media and the stresses of school life.

“I think it’s great that these spaces provide an opportunity to share when things aren’t going great and to get the support and help to get through it.

“When I was younger I had lots of troubles in my school life including bullying, stresses at home and experienced depression as a teenager.

“I’m really happy that mental health is now much more an open subject and there is a place to go to get support.”

Herts Mind Network’s trained workers can provide practical help and emotional support to anyone who visits the cafe, with no referral required.

Practical help may include guidance on coping strategies, stress management techniques and problem-solving skills.

The charity states its “workers have the knowledge and resources to provide relevant information and tools to help young people navigate their mental health challenges”.

The café will also provide a safe space to access digital support including, as well as talk through alternative services.
