Plans to demolish a school building have been given the go-ahead.
Immanuel College in Bushey Heath asked for approval to knock down an unused teaching block by its tennis courts over the summer holidays, at the end of May, and was granted permission this week.
The site backs on to existing derelict buildings in the grounds owned by Rosary Priory – independent living retirement homes.
- Planning application submitted by Immanuel College in Bushey
- Thousands will no longer live in 'Watford' under new boundaries
- Bakerloo line and London Overground closures this summer
Immanuel College, which is a private co-educational Jewish day school, intends to build a replacement building on the same site but has not yet submitted plans for it.
The permission that was granted does not allow any building to take place, including fences.
Hertsmere Borough Council decided that the proposed demolition only required prior approval, which it approved, rather than formal planning permission.
The private Jewish co-educational school, in Elstree Road, has around 700 students aged four to 18, and the summer holiday schedule was set to ensure their safety.
Once the building is demolished the area will be made level.
