Armed police have been called to a Travelodge in St Albans city centre.

At around 10.45am this morning (Friday, April 7), a large police presence was seen in the area of St Peter's Street and Russell Avenue.

An eye witness reported seeing armed police enter the city's Travelodge hotel.

Hertfordshire police later confirmed that officers attended the location after a staff member had raised concerns.

Following an investigation, police found nothing of concern.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary told The Herts Advertiser: "Police were called to the Travelodge at St Peters Street, St Albans, at 10.45am on Good Friday April 7, after concerns were raised by a staff member.

"Officers attended and on investigation found nothing of concern.

"Staff were reassured with no further action required."
