A rescue centre that has rehomed more than 100 cats has told how it is desperate for funds.
The charity, Precious Paws in Rickmansworth, was set up in 2020 by Jacqui Schaffer. It is holding an opening day on June 25 to talk to people who are interested in adopting or fostering a cat.
There will be a cake sale, a raffle, and refreshments to buy.

One of the charity’s volunteers, Rebecca Nottingham, told the Watford Observer: “The idea is to raise awareness of the rescue and raise funds.
“While people won't be able to view the cats during the open day – it would be too stressful for them – if they are looking for a cat to rehome, they will be able to talk to Jacqui and her team of volunteers about the cats we have in our care and leave their details so that a follow-up appointment can be made.
“Again, if people are interested in becoming a foster volunteer, they can chat to the team on the day too.”
The fundraising has come at crucial time – kitten season.
“Which means there are more mouths to feed,” said Ms Nottingham.
Not only does the charity feed the cats and provide enough litter, but it also must take care of their medical needs.
Ms Nottingham explained: “Every cat must go to the vets for a check-up.
“It includes the standard vaccinations, flea/worming treatments and, in some cases, leads to additional treatment.
“In one case a cat needed to have teeth removed. We couldn’t even think about re-homing it without the correct treatment.

“These are all mounting up and we are desperate for funds to continue our work.”
For Ms Nottingham, the most rewarding part of volunteering with the charity is knowing the cats go to a good home.
She said: “A cat might have suddenly found itself in a predicament, maybe its owner has died. It’s lovely to hear when they get a new home.”
