- A motorway slip road was closed for more than six hours after a lorry burst into flames.

- Firefighters were called to the M1 where it meets the M25 at around 6am, and found a lorry well alight.

- The fire was put out and an image shared by police officers at the scene showed the lorry completely destroyed.

- Due to the fire, a decision was made by police and traffic officers to close access from the M1 onto the M25 at junction 6A which led to huge traffic delays during the morning rush hour.

- Highways England reported congestion of 12 miles back to Luton and delays of two hours.

- Locally, routes including the A405 between Chiswell Green and Bricket Wood were affected, while drivers travelling through Redbourn, Harpenden, and via the Park Street Roundabout were also caught in heavy traffic.

- The slip road was eventually reopened at around 1pm.
