Hertfordshire has been put in the lowest category under the new national tiered coronavirus rules system.
Covering the entirety of England, the new regulations were announced by prime minister Boris Johnson on Monday who said the “simplified” ranking approach was needed considering the rising number of infections.
There is now a “medium”, “high”, and “very high” alert system- and in the list announced yesterday, Hertfordshire was confirmed to be a “medium-risk” area.
The medium alert level will cover most of England and will consist of the current national measures, including the rule of six and the 10pm curfew.
The high alert level reflects interventions in many areas subject to local restrictions, preventing mixing between different households indoors.
The very high alert level will mean, at a minimum, the closure of pubs and bars and a ban on social mixing indoors and in private gardens.
But Professor Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer, said he believes the base measures on the ‘very high’ tier is not enough by itself, and he hopes local authorities will bring in additional measures.
Liverpool will come under the strictest “very high” regulations from Wednesday in a bid to curb rising infections and will involve the closure of pubs, gyms and leisure centres.
