Before the county council installed the ‘temporary’ cycle lane on the Wiggenhall Road bridge, the carriageway was wide enough to allow traffic to move to the left, in order to create a clear path for emergency vehicles in the centre of the road.
After the installation of the new cycle lane, this is no longer possible.
It has to be hoped that nobody dies as a result of a late arrival at Watford General Hospital, occasioned by traffic congestion on the substantially narrower bridge. Also that the ‘temporary’ cycle lane really is temporary.
