Commuters are facing delays at Watford Junction station after a train derailed.

A Virgin train has derailed after smashing into a landslide and hitting another train during the morning rush hour.

The train derailed close to Watford Junction at around 7am this morning as rain and storms battered the nation.

No-one is thought to have been hurt but it is feared the accident happened when the train hit a landslide caused by the raging weather.

It then hit another train and derailed - bringing the line from Milton Keynes to London Euston to a standstill.

London Midland confirmed the train had been derailed, causing major disruption to services in and out of one of the capital's major transport hubs.

British Transport Police said officers were called to reports of a landslide at the Hunton Bridge Tunnel near Watford.

They are currently working with fire and ambulance services at the scene.

A spokesman for London Midland said: "There is a train derailment at Watford Junction - it is the 6.19 service from Milton Keynes to London Euston.

"It happened near the tunnels at Watford Junction station - there are no reports of any injuries."

He said that because of where the incident happened, there will be disruption to services in and out of London Euston for at least most of the morning.
