A Three Rivers Councillor is delighted with the success of the new telephone box library in Hunton Bridge.
Towards the end of last year, Councillor Chris Whately-Smith asked Abbots Langley Parish Council to bring forward the painting of the telephone box outside Hunters Lodge as it was beginning to look weather-beaten.
Following its restoration, he decided the telephone box could be put to other uses and asked residents if they would support the idea of a library.
Permission was granted by Abbots Langley Parish Council, a bookcase and books were donated and by November the telephone box had become, what Councillor Whately-Smith described as, a "self-perpetuating library".
He said: "I have been delighted with the success of the telephone box book swap library at Hunton Bridge. So many people have added interesting books that I am now appealing that you only swap on a one to one basis, for I now have to remove surplus books.
"There have been very complimentary comments and I have only had to go in once a month to have a quick tidy up of books on the shelves. It's been great to see it so successful."
