A new permanent headmaster has been selected for Rickmansworth School.
Keith Douglas, the current headmaster of Bushey Meads School and executive head at Falconers School in Bushey, will take over at the academy in Scots Hill, Croxley Green, from January 1 2014.
His appointment comes after former head Dr Stephen Burton announced in May he was stepping down from the position he held for 13 years, following a long period of absence.
His deputy Kevin Flanagan will also leave the school to pursue a new career with Ofsted in his native north-west.
Dame Helen Hyde, head of Watford Girls Grammar School and Mark Allchorn, deputy head of Watford Boys Grammar School, were appointed to temporarily run the school.
Speaking to staff and governors, Mr Douglas said: "It has been a privilege to be offered the headship at Rickmansworth School. I am extremely proud to take up this position.
"During the interview process I met many students and staff who showed immense pride in their school.
"My ambition is to build upon this. Everyone should be very pleased to know the words of praise for the school were strong and loud."
Chair of governors Harvey Collyer, said: "Keith, who will join us on January 1 from Bushey Meads School, is an excellent and very experienced head.
"We could not have made a better choice and are confident that Keith will lead the school into the future with vision and integrity."
