An angry resident has filed a complaint against council bosses over his "unfair treatment" after he was kicked off his West Watford allotment plot.
Gareth Fernandes, 46, threatened a hunger strike outside the town hall after he received his first termination letter a month ago.
However, after a lengthy email exchange with officials at Watford Borough Council he was given two weeks to get his plot up to scratch.
Paul Rabbitts, Environmental Services Client Manager, visited the plot on July 1 and subsequently sent Mr Fernandes a second and final termination letter that said: "Your plot is still not to an acceptable standard and is nowhere near the level of cultivation we would expect. As you have not complied with the requirements laid out in the previous correspondence, I am terminating your tenancy with immediate effect."
Mr Fernandes said: "I am so stressed out about this. I paid a lot of money and spent a lot of time getting my plot ready but they’re kicking me off anyway. I feel unfairly treated. No one else is getting this treatment and other plots are much worse than mine."
He was told on June 11 he must get his plot to 75% cultivation, as stated in the council allotment’s Frequently Asked Questions.
Mr Fernandes asked for longer than two weeks extension time because he was "suffering from ill health". He said a councillor had told him he had until July 5 to get his plot to the necessary standard but Mr Rabbitts inspected the plot on July 1.
He said: "My plot is now 100% cultivated and they’re kicking me off. I’ve met the cultivation target and now they’re telling me I have to take all my belongings away by Wednesday (July 10)."
The resident has enquired to the council about their appeals process and plans to fight their decision to terminate his plot.
