More than £20,000 was spent treating patients in Watford who had to have items removed from their rectums last year.
Figures released by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust said five patients were treated at Watford General between April 2012 and March this year.
The trust said the total cost of extricating the alien items and treating the patients was £20,725.
However due to the way its medical records are kept the health trust said it was unable to reveal what items were removed.
