WATFORD Borough Council's new chairman Councillor Rabi Martins has vowed to highlight good work done by local young people during his term in office.

Councillor Martins will focus on "children and youth" during his tenure as chairman and his theme for the year is "celebrating Watford's youth".

He met with representatives from his chosen charities this month to discuss ways of working together.

He will be supporting the Saracens Foundation who promote healthy living and physical exercise for children in the community; the Watford District Scouts who cover all the Scout groups in Watford and the Peace Hospice Stars which is a grief support programme for bereaved children.

A programme of events is currently being worked out for the forthcoming year, which will include a charity dinner in November and a special rugby match at in the New Year at Vicarage Road, courtesy of Saracens.

Chairman Martins said: "I am delighted that Saracens have committed to helping my efforts to raise funds for organisations that are devoted to getting the best out of our young people.

"In recent times there has been too much focus on the problems caused by a few unruly youngsters whilst the good done by the significant groups like for example the scouts are totally overlooked.

"That is why I want to ask the people of Watford to support those organisations that put getting the best out of our youngsters first, including of course my chosen three."

All donations to the Chairman's charities would be gratefully received.
