Two people died in a horrific crash last night as a Range Rover careered off the M1 and crashed into trees.
Another three people who were also in the silver Range Rover were rushed to hospital following the crash between Bricket Wood and Watford at about 8.10pm on Easter Monday.
Police are appealing for witnesses, information and any dash cam footage after the fatal crash southbound between junctions 5 and 6.
A man and a young woman died at the scene, while a further three occupants, two women and one man, were taken to hospital for treatment, police confirmed.
Four fire engines and a specialist rescue unit raced to the scene, where they released three people who were trapped in the vehicle.
Sergeant Stephanie Corletto, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with all those affected at this extremely sad and difficult time.
“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision. As part of this, we need to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or events prior to it, and hasn’t yet spoken to police.
“We’d be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam footage of the incident itself, or of the vehicle travelling in the area prior to it.
“If you have any information at all, please get in contact. Thank you.”
Any information on the crash can be reported online at herts.police.uk/report or on 101, quoting ISR 583 of April 1.
