Memories of a former Watford pub proved very popular with readers when it was the focus of two nostalgia articles last month – and today we go even further back to when the first pints were pulled behind its bar.
These images from the Watford Observer archive were taken more than 60 years ago on June 7, 1962 when The Beaver was officially opened by the mayor.
He is pictured pulling a pint of bitter from the pumps at the new pub in Courtlands Drive before taking a sip from the glass.

The pub was to remain open for almost 50 years, during which time it was used for filming, before it was demolished in 2010 to make way for housing.
